This week, viewers will see Joseph dealing with a full-blown crisis as he is required to perform surgery while a flash flood causes chaos at the hospital.
Writing on the BBC's TV blog, Roberts commented: "These kinds of episodes are really fun. Personally, I relish it - and I wish we did more of them! But we have to earn them - you can't have them every week in Holby City."
He continued: "It's fun for me because my character's pretty starchy. I mean, I love Joseph dearly but he's quite suit-wearing and nothing's out of place, so it's fun for me to be in scrubs.
"Okay, there's not many moments, I admit, but there's a little more chance to play the action hero, running around in scrubs and carrying trolleys down the stairs and that kind of stuff."
The actor added that he is most pleased to have "done shootouts, delivered babies in lifts [and] been held up in South Africa" during his four-year Holby stint. He said: "More of it for Joseph please!"
Holby's flood crisis airs in a two-part special beginning tonight at 8pm on BBC One and continuing at the same time on Thursday.
