Holby City's new recruit Laila Rouass has ruled out relying on Botox to look younger, admitting that she previously had a bad experience with the injections.

The actress, who makes her debut as Sahira Shah on the medical drama next week, confessed that she experimented with the treatment six years ago but was unimpressed with the results.

Speaking to The Sun, the 39-year-old explained that Botox made her look "demented".

She said: "My mother thought I'd had my ears pinned back as my face looked odd. When I smiled it looked like I was staring."

However, the star also joked about Holby City being screened in high definition - branding HD the "worst invention ever" as it allows viewers to spot wrinkles more easily.

Rouass has previously starred in Footballers' Wives, Primeval and Spooks.
