Exclusive: Behind the scenes at 'Enders café explosion

Published Tuesday, May 26 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green
The café on EastEnders' Bridge Street goes up in flames and ultimately explodes during next week's episodes after an unhinged Nick Cotton (John Altman) holds a group of locals hostage in the building.

As a fire ignites in the kitchen area of Ian Beale's (Adam Woodyatt) greasy spoon, a mystery man (Neil McDermott) lunges at Nick, allowing Bradley (Charlie Clements) to lead everyone to safety. The flame-haired Branning manages to lead himself and Nick's group of hostages to safety, before he re-enters the blazing building in a bid to save Nick.

After a scuffle between the pair, Bradley's about to make his exit when he notices a split gas pipe and the café suddenly explodes.

Here, DS presents an exclusive gallery of behind-the-scenes photos from the filming of the stunt.
