EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook has admitted that she was nervous about her soap comeback.

The 35-year-old actress recently returned to the BBC One drama after successfully battling her cocaine problem, which marred her time on the programme in the '90s.

Speaking to We Love Telly, Westbrook commented: "I was really frightened to come back if I'm honest. I felt like the new girl at school.

"It's such a big show as well, not like you're just doing a cameo somewhere quiet. This is a journey for me personally. I want to show I've closed a chapter in my life."

Westbrook added that she did not expect to play the part of Sam Mitchell ever again after Kim Medcalf took over the role from 2002 to 2005.

"I never gave [EastEnders] a second thought," she explained. "It's like leaving any job, you move on, especially when someone else takes on the role."

The star has previously vowed to win back the respect of cast members she worked with during her last Walford stint.
