The 46-year-old actress told Take 5 magazine that the public are still interested in her Walford role as Cindy Beale, which she played on and off for ten years from 1988.
She commented: "They talk to me about other roles I've done [too], but I suppose Cindy was such a huge character it's hard to shake off.
"It's fine though. I've kept working doing other things so I can't grumble."
Collins added that she was baffled when Cindy appeared to be sending messages to her ex-husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt) from beyond the grave in 2007. Cindy's son Steven (Aaron Sidwell) was later unveiled as the person responsible.
She explained: "I was filming Rock Rivals in Dublin at the time and everyone was convinced I was going back.
"Everyone thought I'd just been sworn to secrecy but I actually knew nothing about it. I was busy working. It would have been nice to know a bit more about it but hey, never mind."
Collins has previously revealed that she would not rule out a return to Albert Square.
