EastEnders star Neil McDermott has admitted that he is worried about disrupting the soap's forthcoming live episode with laughter.

The actor, who plays market trader Ryan Malloy in the Walford drama, told DS that he fears he may lose his composure if he has scenes with co-star Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher) in the highly-anticipated instalment.

EastEnders will broadcast live for the first time in its history on February 19. The episode, which forms part of the programme's 25th anniversary celebrations, will see viewers finally discovering the identity of Archie Mitchell's killer.

Asked whether he is looking forward to the challenge, McDermott replied: "I am - I think most people are involved in it although we haven't had any scripts for it. It should be good fun. I know there's a big reveal which I think has been widely publicised now so yeah, I think it's going to be quite dramatic."

On what could make him nervous on the day, he commented: "Sid Owen probably! I've got scenes with Sid Owen and he makes me laugh on a daily basis - if I'm in a scene with him and he starts getting a twinkle in his eyes I'm liable to lose it so if I'm in scenes with him, don't be surprised if I'm not looking at him very much!

"I think we're going to be rehearsing for a week before so it will all be well drilled into us. By the time it comes around, much like doing a play or anything, you're just ready to get going with it - you just want to do it. I'm sure most people will be relieved when it's finished as well!"

McDermott has been shortlisted in the newcomer category at this year's National Television Awards. Click here to cast your vote on the official website.
