'EastEnders' Moments: Dirty Den's Daffodil Death

Published Monday, Feb 8 2010, 11:38 GMT | By Kris Green
Ask any avid EastEnders fan for their most iconic 'duff duff' moment from the last 25 years and they'll almost always cite Den handing Angie the divorce papers on Christmas Day 1986 or Den being shot by the canal trough a bunch of daffodils three years later on February 23, 1989.

With bosses of The Firm gunning for Den's blood, they resolved to silence him once and for all over the firebombing of The Dagmar by killing him. While on his way to the trial, Den was captured by members of The Firm, before managing to escape their clutches and running for his life.

Determined to meet Michelle and daughter Vicki, Den called Michelle and asked her to meet him by the canal - completely unaware that The Firm had been keeping tabs on her. Michelle eventually talked Den into handing himself in to the police, promising that she and Vicki would be waiting for him on his release from prison.

Following a final kiss with Michelle, Den came face to face with a member of The Firm who began reaching into his jacket pocket for what Den believed to be a gun. Quickly turning around, Den walked towards an innocent-looking couple. After flashing a cheeky smile at them, a gun emerged from the bunch of daffodils and a shot rang out, before the splash of Den's body falling into the canal echoed over the end of the episode.
