'EastEnders' Moments: Steve, Saskia and The Ashtray

By
EastEnders bunny boiler Saskia Duncan gave E20's nightclub boss Steve Owen a Valentine's night to remember back in 1999 when she tried to strangle him with his own tie. Steve, however, exacted the ultimate revenge when he buried an ashtray in her skull.

On the opening night of E20, Saskia stormed into the club office and made the shock revelation that she'd aborted his baby. Dismissive of the manic obsessive, Steve shouted at her to leave but she grabbed for a champagne bottle and cracked him over the head.

As Steve fell to the floor, Saskia created a noose with his tie and began strangling him.

A concerned Matthew Rose walked in on the incident and jumped to Steve's defence, attempting to drag his deranged lover off him. While Saska attacked Matthew with a champagne bucket, Steve tried to restrain her but she turned her anger back on him.

Reaching for the closest hard object, Steve grabbed an ashtray and clobbered her over the head.

Steve and Matthew later buried Saskia's body in Epping Forest, before the pair were arrested. Matthew, however, was imprisoned for Saskia's murder, allowing Steve to walk free.
