'EastEnders' Moments: Chrissie, Den and The Doggy Doorstop

EastEnders celebrated its 20th anniversary in February 2005 with a special one-hour episode which featured the second and final demise of Walford original Den Watts.

Around 14.2m tuned in to watch Den die at the hands of his wife who buried Pauline Fowler's now-iconic doggy doorstop into his skull, before burying Den himself in the cellar at The Vic.

The Three Witches of Walford - Chrissie, Zoe and Sam - tricked Den into revealing each of his sins, while he was completely unaware that his daughter Sharon was listening in. Distraught by her father's confessions, Sharon fled the scene after a fierce exchange of words with Chrissie.

Den returned to The Vic for a final showdown with his wife who screamed: "Now you know what it's like to lose the one thing in the world you loved most. Now you know what it's like to be one of us. Now you know what it's like to be me!"

Pushed over the edge, Den lunged at his wife, slamming her head into the pub's fruit machine.

Determined to stop Den from attacking Chrissie, Zoe grabbed for the nearest object - the doggy doorstop - and cracked him over the head with it. Den slumped to the floor and presuming him to be dead, Chrissie, Zoe and Sam began to panic at their actions.

While Zoe and Sam checked that all doors and windows were locked, Chrissie made the shock discovery that Den was still alive when he grabbed her ankle. With Sam watching, Chrissie reached for the doorstop and stuck the final, fatal blow to her husband's head.
