Martin: 'Windsor exit won't hurt 'Enders'
EastEnders star Derek Martin has declared his belief that the soap will not decline following the departure of Barbara Windsor.

Derek, who plays Walford's Charlie Slater, rejected suggestions that the show will suffer without veteran Windsor, who is due to quit her role as Peggy Mitchell later this year.

He told The AP: "People said that when Dirty Den and Angie left - they say that about all the characters but soaps go on.

"Look at when Ena Sharples left Corrie. Soap goes on."

Martin went on to say that he is looking forward to the programme's upcoming live episode on February 19, which will mark its 25th anniversary.

"I did lots of live stuff years ago," he explained. "Some of the youngsters might be a bit nervous but to me it's just doing what we do. We're professionals and we'll do it."
