'Enders Jane, Masood share "unrequited love"
Published Tuesday, May 11 2010, 17:09 BST | By Kris Green
EastEnders actress Laurie Brett has insisted that her character Jane Beale's relationship with Masood will always be unrequited.
Speaking to Digital Spy on the red carpet at this year's British Soap Awards, she said: "[Jane] obviously loves Ian very much - God knows why, but she does! - Masood and her is a kind of Butterflies thing. They'll always meet, they'll always have something. They'll be in the park a year or two years' time still talking to each other. It's that unrequited love - it's a lovely thing."
Earlier this year, Jane hoped to raise her step-daughter's unborn child as her own, but was led to believe that she'd miscarried. Jane's husband and Lucy's father Ian, however, orchestrated an abortion in order to protect her. But Jane remains in the dark as to their actions.
Brett added: "That's going to be a slow-burn - i don't find out for a long time, which I'm glad about. I don't think the outcome's going to be what everyone expects - in that Jane ups and leaves again. I think Jane's got a lot more understanding than her family give her credit for."
