The actress portrayed Louise Summers on Hollyoaks while Kirkwood was in charge of the Channel 4 show, and she recently had a chance to meet up with him again while playing the role of Pippa on EastEnders: E20.
Speaking to DS about her former boss, McKee commented: "It was lovely to catch up with him. The first thing he said was 'Your hair's grown'. You've got to love a man who notices your hair!
"EastEnders are very lucky to have him. He's a smart producer. I'm sure he'll have lots of exciting things planned for the residents of Albert Square, as he's brilliant at his job."
E20 fans will see McKee in the role of Pippa for the first time tonight as she is introduced as the new girlfriend of Stevie Dickinson's ex, Olly.
Describing the character, the star teased: "She's a rich girl as she comes from a wealthy family, and she's always out for a good time! The viewers will also see that Pippa is quite a generous person, but she usually has just one thing on her mind."
The next episode of E20 will be uploaded at 8pm tonight on the show's official website.
