The former Hollyoaks star told RTÉ Ten that he had not been tempted to take the role, or several other "big" jobs in the UK which he had been approached for.
"I've turned down EastEnders," he said. "I've turned down big roles over here in the UK...I'm A Celebrity - all those."
He admitted that he had turned down the work "because that's not what I want to do."
"Why leave Hollyoaks to join another soap?" he said. "It's a fantastic soap and it was fantastic money and profile, and I had opportunities to have my own show and things like that but I don't want to do that. That's not what I want to do.
"I want to act in films and TV drama so that's where I'm aiming to be and I'm not going to let anything distract me or turn my head until I get there," he added.
