Neil McDermott has suggested that his EastEnders alter ego Ryan Malloy will return to his "bad boy" image.

Speaking to Holy Soap, the 30-year-old actor revealed that he hopes producers rediscover the character's darker side in future plots.

He stated: "It's been really interesting for me to play a bad boy character who is developing and changing into a much more responsible person who's still always capable of possibly doing something a bit dodgy, if pushed to extremes," before adding: "And I'm sure we'll explore that again in the future hopefully."

McDermott also opined that Ryan's relationship with wife Janine - who is played by Charlie Brooks - "works" despite being "unconventional".

"I think Janine initially has been a perfect match for him. They've been really good together. It's been a bit of an unconventional relationship but it works," the star continued. "But he's now becoming a much more responsible person. Janine doesn't like that side to him as much."

He concluded: "Ryan and Janine will have a change of attitude after the effects of what [happened] at Christmas."
