Ronnie's 'Enders baby swap draws 9m

Ronnie Mitchell's baby swap storyline in EastEnders appealed to an audience of nearly 9m on New Year's Day.

The tragic plot, which was toned down by executives, grabbed 8.95m (31.5%) at 8.30pm in an unusual Saturday evening timeslot.

BBC Three's repeat of the episode - which saw the grieving Ronnie steal Kat and Alfie's child - added 562k (2.2%) at 10pm.
