Lacey Turner has admitted that she is enjoying her new-found freedom after leaving EastEnders.

The actress bowed out of her role as Stacey Branning after six-and-a-half years on Christmas Day. Turner made her first TV appearance since leaving the soap in the first episode of the new series of Being Human last night.

Asked what she has coming up next, she said: "I don't know really. I'm going to take a bit of time out and see what happens and take each day as it comes. It's very exciting. It's nice because I was in EastEnders for six-and-a-half years and you know what you're going to do the next day and the next week; now it's nice to not have a plan!"

Speaking about how she had approached the role of Lia in the BBC Three drama, the 22-year-old commented: "As an actress you sort of want to try different things, really - you want to explore different ways of doing things. On a fast show like EastEnders you don't have the time to do that - you have to decide which way you're gonna do it and stick to it. So it was nice to have the time to be able to think: 'I'll try this to see if it's better'.

Turner will reprise her role as Lia in the final episode of Being Human's current run.
