James Alexandrou has confirmed that he would not be interested in returning to EastEnders in the foreseeable future.

The actor played the role of Martin Fowler on the BBC soap for ten years until 2006, when he bowed out from Walford to pursue other acting opportunities.

Fans recently saw Martin's wife Sonia - played by Natalie Cassidy - arrive back on Albert Square for a one-off episode. The character's brief return saw her reveal some important news about Bianca, as well as telling her family that her relationship with Martin was over.

Asked by Digital Spy whether he would consider following in Cassidy's footsteps with a comeback of his own, Alexandrou replied: "Not really, nah. I don't know. I've got a strange relationship with being on the telly. I grew up on EastEnders and I left... and I've been happy ever since. There's no reason to go back. Right now, I'm just happy doing what I'm doing."

The 25-year-old revealed that the show's bosses have never yet approached him to return, adding: "After they've read this, they definitely won't! I mean, look, I haven't got any bad feelings for EastEnders - that sounds like we don't like each other. I talk to the guys all the time and I love that show. It started me off.

"But I'm doing good right now and I'm happy doing what I'm doing. I don't need to go back and it's not going to fulfill me anymore."

Alexandrou is currently promoting his new BBC Three documentary Cannabis: What's the Harm?, which airs tomorrow at 9pm.
