The actress - best known for her role as Weatherfield's Becky McDonald - explained that she was a fan of the gritty Walford plot which saw McFadden's character Phil Mitchell develop an addiction to crack cocaine.
Speaking to Holy Soap, Kelly commented: "Steve McFadden has been outstanding this year. I was very jealous of his storyline. I'd love a crack storyline."
Kelly confessed that she is unlikely to get a similar storyline because many of Becky's worst troubles occurred before she arrived on the cobbles.
She said: "My crack storyline happened before my arrival on Coronation Street, I think."
Kelly and McFadden are both up for the 'Best Serial Drama Performance' prize at tonight's National Television Awards, appearing in the category alongside Lacey Turner and Danny Miller.
