Last night, viewers saw the Walford show emerge as the big winner at this year's National Television Awards, securing three prizes including the prestigious 'Most Popular Serial Drama' gong.
Speaking on ITV2's National Television Awards Party after the ceremony, Richie reflected on the programme's triumph.
The actor - who plays Albert Square's Alfie Moon - commented: "I just think that each year EastEnders pushes the parameters. They certainly did it last year with the burning down of The Vic and the crack story, and also what's happened recently. I think the storylines are very dramatic and the audience buy into that."
He continued: "It's great for EastEnders tonight. I'm really happy for our exec producer Bryan Kirkwood because he's only just come in new to the job, same time as me and Jessie [returned]."
Along with the 'Serial Drama' prize, EastEnders' other successes on the night came when Ricky Norwood (Fatboy Chubb) and Lacey Turner (Stacey Branning) picked up the 'Most Popular Newcomer' and 'Serial Drama Performance' gongs respectively.
