Patsy Palmer has said that she would be "happy" for her son Charley to land a role in EastEnders.

The actress revealed that the 19-year-old is currently studying to become an actor. Speaking to The Sun, Palmer said that the BBC soap is "strict" with its young stars and helps keep them in line.

"I'd be really happy for him to be in EastEnders," she told the paper. "It's quite old-fashioned and they are strict. They really look after young actors."

Palmer - Bianca Jackson in the Albert Square drama - has previously spoken at length about her past drink and drug addictions, and admitted that she had continued to "binge" when she joined the show at 21.

"I hate to think what would have happened to me if I hadn't got that break as Bianca. EastEnders saved my life," she said. "I'm very happy for him to follow in my footsteps, just so long as he wants to act and doesn't have a notion of just wanting to be famous. It's very dangerous when kids say, 'I just want to be famous'."
