EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has confirmed that Max Branning's forthcoming car crash will have a long-lasting impact on life in Albert Square.

Next month, fans will see Max (Jake Wood) face peril as he crashes his car into a lorry on the day of his ex-wife Tanya's wedding. His daughter Abi is also in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Reports have suggested that a horrified Tanya (Jo Joyner) will flee from the church after she hears about the accident, just moments after she has tied the knot with partner Greg Jessop, played by Stefan Booth.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Kirkwood explained that the dramatic scenes pave the way for changes in the lives of Tanya, Greg, Max and the businessman's new partner Vanessa Gold.

Kirkwood commented: "Max and Vanessa and Tanya and Greg are heading in a particular direction, but that changes after Max's car crash on Tanya's wedding day. The accident has a real impact on Max and Tanya for a long time, and turns their lives around."

Of Tanya and Max's appeal as a couple, he added: "I think they're like Den and Angie Watts - it's fun to have them together and fun to have them apart. All I can say is that I really enjoy them together."
