The actress confirmed that she allows 7-year-old Tia and 3-year-old Aidan to see her character Zainab Masood's comedy moments, but shields them from Walford's darker plotlines.
Asked by Soaplife whether her children watch Zainab on screen, Wadia replied: "Very, very rarely if there's a particularly funny scene I'm in. They're too young. EastEnders deals with some very adult-themed storylines.
"I'm always surprised by viewers who stop me in the street and say their little children love EastEnders. Why do they let them watch it?"
Wadia, who won the 'Best Comedy Performance' prize at the 2009 British Soap Awards, also spoke of how much she enjoys Zainab's funnier scenes.
She said: "Every chance I get, I try to inject some comedy into Zainab to make her as quirky as possible. She says it like it is and has no idea how rude and funny she is."
Zainab is currently involved in more family drama as she tries to re-connect with estranged son Syed (Marc Elliott) amid the Masoods' ongoing financial problems.
