EastEnders star Charlie Brooks has pondered Pat Evans's forthcoming departure from the soap, admitting that she hopes her villainous character Janine Malloy does not kill the Walford legend.

Pam St Clement recently announced that she has decided to bow out from the role of Pat after 25 years. Her final scenes are expected to air in late 2011.

Brooks told Inside Soap that she hopes EastEnders bosses do not have a shock murder twist lined up for Janine and Pat, despite their turbulent relationship and her alter ego's dark history.

The actress commented: "I don't want Janine to kill Pat! I'd really love to be part of her exit storyline - but not like that! Pam is one of my favourite people and I'm going to miss her loads."

Brooks admitted that she is also sad about Neil McDermott's departure from the role of Janine's estranged husband Ryan.

"I'm going to miss him like mad," she said. "We worked very tightly together. We'll catch up outside of work, but I'll really miss seeing him every day."

Janine's next storyline will see her buy into Walford nightclub R&R, making her Phil Mitchell's business partner.
