EastEnders bosses are hoping to lure back Nick Berry and Michael French for Pat Evans's departure storyline, a report has claimed.

The pair, who played Simon Wicks and David Wicks respectively, are being lined up to return to Albert Square later this year as part of a plotline that will see their mum Pat pass away, according to The Sun.

Yesterday, it emerged that Pat will be killed off at Christmas following Pam St Clement's recent decision to bow out from her iconic role.

It is thought that show chiefs now want Simon and David back in Walford for the story to ensure that Pat gets a send-off to remember.

An EastEnders source told the newspaper: "Producers are working flat-out to get Nick and Michael on board. Nick hasn't done any major TV work for the best part of a decade. To get him back into Albert Square would be a major coup."

However, an EastEnders spokesperson declined to comment on the claims, telling Digital Spy this morning: "There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Pat's departure, however we are not going to comment on rumours at this stage as we don't want to spoil the storyline for viewers."

Berry played the role of Wicksy between 1985 and 1990. Meanwhile, French appeared on screens as David between 1993 and 1996 and now stars in Casualty.

Bianca (Patsy Palmer) and Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) are also expected to be back on screen in time for Pat's departure.
