EastEnders character Tamwar Masood will reportedly be badly disfigured during the shock Albert Square fire on Christmas Day.

Tamwar (Himesh Patel) will be required to undergo plastic surgery after getting caught up in the B&B blaze that will conclude the ongoing Masood family and Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti) storyline.

Viewers will see Tamwar's young marriage to Afia (Meryl Fernandes) put under pressure by his devastating injuries, according to The Mirror.

"Tamwar is lucky to be alive after the fire," a show source said. "He escapes but suffers serious scars and it causes depression."

Nina Wadia, who plays Zainab Masood in the soap, recently told Digital Spy that her scripts for the Christmas period "shocked the life out of [her]".

Wadia also promised "more shocks and surprises" for Zainab in the near future, saying: "Every time I open a new [script], my jaw drops."
