A trailer for Pat Evans's (Pam St Clement) exit from EastEnders has been unveiled.
The 30-second clip, which begins with the tagline "The end of a year, the end of an era", teases the legendary character's final moments and the return of her son David Wicks (Michael French) on New Year's Day.
An end to the long-running hostility between Pat and Janine (Charlie Brooks) is also hinted at, as the Albert Square villain finally realises the seriousness of her stepmother's condition.
Images released this week of Pat's departure revealed that she will also be confronted by old enemy Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) on her deathbed, reigniting David's own feud with him after her passing.
Pam St Clement announced in July that she would be leaving EastEnders after 25 years as Pat.
Her final episode airs New Year's Day at 7pm on BBC One.
