Former EastEnders actor Todd Carty has suggested that he would be open to making a soap comeback.

The 48-year-old, who played Mark Fowler in the BBC soap from 1990 to 2003, claimed he could see himself starring in Coronation Street or Emmerdale in the future.

'I'm happy where I am just now," he told Inside Soap. "But if Emmerdale or Corrie ever need a cockney geezer, they've got my number!"

Carty said he cannot fathom why he still gets recognised as his iconic character almost a decade after he quit EastEnders.

"I find it funny when kids on my sons' football teams ask me if I was in EastEnders," he said. "It's been 10 years since I played Mark, and most of them weren't born then, so they couldn't know. Then I'll spot a mum in the background watching me, looking a bit red-faced because I've managed to find her out!"

Carty last expressed a desire to join Coronation Street in May 2010, claiming he would "never say never" to an appearance.
