EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has said that she hopes there is a turning point ahead for Lauren Branning's ongoing alcohol storyline.

Lauren has been drinking excessively for some time, and viewers will see things get worse next month when she ends up lying unconscious in an alley following a night out. The next morning, the troubled teenager wakes up in hospital with no memory of the night before.

Jossa told All About Soap that the latest incident should warn Lauren that she can't keep heading down her current destructive path.

The actress explained: "When Lauren drinks, she doesn't see a problem with it so she keeps going. She doesn't know when to stop and, although she protests to her parents that everyone else is drinking too, Lauren's knocking back double the amount. But she still doesn't see that it's an issue.

"I really hope she can help herself. This is the first time she gets a bit scared and realises she shouldn't be drinking this much. But she has to do it for herself."

EastEnders airs the latest drama for Lauren on Monday, May 7 on BBC One. Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
