'EastEnders' kidnap drama seen by 7.2m in Tuesday ratings

EastEnders claimed 7.2m viewers on Tuesday evening (August 14) as the drama surrounding Sharon Rickman's return continued, overnight figures show.

The Walford soap pulled in 7.19m (38.2%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Dennis's kidnap led to a car chase. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 733k (4.7%) at 10.30pm.

Also on BBC One, Holby City entertained 4.79m (23.1%) at 8pm with an episode titled 'You and Me'.

Emmerdale, meanwhile, attracted 5.85m (33.5%) at 7pm as Paddy and Marlon's feud rumbled on, adding 239k (1.2%) on +1.

Hollyoaks appealed to 844k (5.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 106k (0.6%) on timeshift as Walker's motivations were finally revealed in a special single-strand episode. E4's first look had 430k (2.5%) at 7pm.

Emmerdale 6216: Paddy is furious, refusing to let Marlon mess up their lives while Rhona thinks they should get confirmation first that Marlon and Laurel really are together. Rhona urges Paddy to follow Marlon outside and Paddy is suspicious when he sees an exchange between Marlon and Laurel. In the pub kitchen, Paddy is angry as he questions Marlon about Laurel, wondering why he couldn't tell him. Marlon avoids the questions but panics when Paddy makes to leave. Marlon asks Paddy to keep the relationship quiet and they argue, both fuming about the situation. Later, Laurel and Marlon are left worried when Paddy visits and asks Marlon what is more important, them taking Leo away or keeping their affair a secret?

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours managed 627k (8.9%) at 1.45pm and 781k (6.4%) at 5.30pm, while the latest classic Home and Away episodes on 5* interested 147k (1.0%) and 146k (0.9%) at 6pm and 6.30pm respectively.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors - titled 'Judging Books' - was seen by 1.23m (17.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
