Syed sparks another big relationship crisis for the pair in the coming days after Christian (John Partridge) challenges him to be honest about his feelings. With Syed unable to express his love following all of their recent problems, Christian is unsure whether they should be together.
Speaking to Inside Soap, however, Elliott offered reassurance that the pair still have a strong bond.
Elliott commented: "It's odd to think that Syed would marry him and then struggle to admit his feelings - but maybe he fears opening up too much.
"After everything they've been through, the one thing you'd want is support from your partner. Syed does love Christian deep down, but for whatever reason he can't find the words right now."
Syed does finally reassure Christian that he loves him towards the end of next week, but with more drama ahead before the pair leave Walford, it remains to be seen whether it is enough to give them a happy ending.
Next week's episodes also see Syed agree that Amira Shah should have full-time custody of their daughter Yasmin in Birmingham with her new fiancé.
Elliott added: "It's not so difficult for Syed to accept the news and relinquish Yasmin, because he knows he'll be giving Amira the chance to go off and have the family she's always wanted. She deserves to be happy."
