The actor, who plays Max Branning, admitted that he is keen to share many more scenes with Wareing following her recent arrival in the role of Kirsty.
Kirsty departed Albert Square in a taxi last night (January 22), but she won't be off screen for long as Max tracks her down at the end of next week, having failed to win back his on-off partner Tanya (Jo Joyner).
Wood told Inside Soap: "I think Max is capable of loving Tanya and Kirsty at the same time. I knew that Max had a secret wife for a year before she arrived, and [series consultant] Simon Ashdown - who shaped the story - worked with me and Kierston to create this bond between them before she appeared on screen.
"We worked out the backstory, so the viewers got a real sense of them having a history together. I hope that came across in the first moment they came face-to-face again at Christmas."
He continued: "A lot of people want Max and Tanya to stay together. But I think there's every possibility Max could end up with Kirsty if Tanya doesn't want him.
"I don't know if there's a future for them, but Kierston is a great addition to our cast - and I hope she'll be staying for a lot longer."
Viewers saw Tanya kick Max out of their family home this week after he confessed that he still had feelings for Kirsty.
Wood joked: "I don't think he'll ever tell the truth again! He's laid his cards on the table and it's resulted in him being chucked out."
EastEnders continues tomorrow (January 24) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
