Wyatt has now expressed an interest in making the character more permanent if the opportunity arises.

She told the Daily Express: "It's early days but I certainly wouldn't say no if I was asked to extend this role."

Wyatt, who was married to radio DJ Tony Blackburn in the 1970s, added that the EastEnders cast "could not have been nicer".

She also stated that she would "love to appear" in ITV period drama Downton Abbey, but did rule out participating in Strictly Come Dancing in the future.

"I love Strictly but I couldn't do it," she said. "I play tennis and I'm quite fit but I wouldn't feel confident enough to not make a complete prat of myself.

"I may have gone to ballet school but I was always terrible at dancing. That's why I ended up acting in the first place."
