'EastEnders' axe baby abduction plot

BBC

EastEnders producers today made the decision to pull their baby abduction storyline.

The news comes only weeks after Coronation Street bosses axed their missing child storyline in view of recent events in Portugal.

The Walford plot would have seen Dr May (Amanda Drew) run off with Dawn (Kara Tointon) and Rob's (Stuart Laing) baby shortly after it had been born.

Of the decision, a spokeswoman for the BBC soap told DS: "EastEnders has made the decision to substantially rewrite the current storyline featuring Dawn Swann and Dr May Wright due to the events surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

"In the current circumstances it was felt any storyline that included a child abduction would be inappropriate and could cause distress to our viewers."
