Charlie Brooks has revealed that she agreed to return to EastEnders for the sake of her young daughter.

The actress recently signed a £100,000-per-year deal to make a permanent comeback as superbitch Janine Butcher. She had previously returned for the funeral of her on-screen father Frank, who was played by late actor Mike Reid.

Charlie is a single mother after splitting from Tony Truman, the father of her three-year-old daughter Kiki, two years ago.

"I had a little girl I wanted to support," Brooks told the Sunday Mirror. "And it's nice to have my independence."

"I was keen to find out what had happened to Janine," she continued. "She's so dynamic and such a bitch. But I've always felt there was also a little girl buried somewhere inside and I wanted to explore this more vulnerable side of her."

Brooks admitted that she would not be able to make her TV comeback without the support of Truman.

"Tony is a fantastic dad. We often put Kiki to bed together. I get lots of help from him, and his mum. We even go on holiday together," she explained. "It's just that we no longer sleep together. But we'll always be a family. He's round my house all the time. He lives less than a mile away."
