Poll: Who's the Daddy in 'EastEnders'?

Published Saturday, May 2 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green | 39 comments
Last week, we mulled the question 'Are soap returnees a good thing?'.

There's always been mixed feelings on the topic of soap returnees. Some viewers love the fact that producers can delve into their show's rich character history and resurrect some of the most iconic people. Some, however, don't see why soap bosses and storyliners enjoy 'living in the past', instead preferring that they concentrate on the development of fresh, new characters.

From the thousands of you that voted, a massive 73.3% believe that if there's a story to tell for a past character, then a soap should draft the actor back for another stint. A mere 5.1% maintain that shows should move on, while 21.6% think that it all depends on the character in question.

With EastEnders' 25th and Coronation Street's 50th anniversaries on the horizon, I think it's safe to say that we'll be seeing more returns over the next year or so.

Right, let's toddle on with this week's poll, in which I ask: 'Who's the Daddy?'

Yep, it came as quite a shock to most when the news leaked of Heather's (Cheryl Fergison) pregnancy in EastEnders.

It's thought that her pregnancy stems from that night in R&R in February when we saw Heather snogging the face of a mystery man called Eddie, who she was led to believe was a male escort that her best mate Shirley (Linda Henry) had hired.

However, it turned out that Eddie wasn't the gigolo and before anyone could tell her, he'd made a sharp exit, never to be seen since. Heather, meanwhile, wound up locking herself in a cubicle in R&R's toilets where a mystery person's hand passed her missing lucky George Michael yoghurt pot lid beneath the stall door.

So is the owner of the mystery hand the father of Heather's baby? Or was that a complete red herring? Could Phil have done the dirty with his on/off girlfriend Shirley's best mate? Or did Charlie (Derek Martin) get a better offer than Brenda (Carmel Cryan)? Cast your vote using the box below.

I must extend a special thanks to Will on our production team for the above image.
