Poll: Are you looking forward to Sam Mitchell's return?

Published Saturday, Aug 29 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green | 19 comments
Last week, I asked, 'Was Hollyoaks' Ste/Abi/Daniel plot an anti-climax?'.

You voted in your thousands and the results are in.

A massive 76.6% of those who voted thought the story was truly anti-climactic, while the remaining votes were split almost equally - 12.1% were indifferent, and 11.3% thought it lived up to expectations.

Last weekend, I caught the episodes again on the Sunday omnibus and one thing I neglected to mention in my previous blog was how good a performance I thought Kieron Richardson turned out as Ste. I think he was the saving grace of the story.

Moving onto this week's question now, in which I ask, 'Are you looking forward to Sam Mitchell's return to 'EastEnders'?'

We've known since April that Danniella Westbrook was to reprise her role as the original Mitchell sister Sam, despite Kim Medcalf being the last person to play the part.

I was initially sceptical about the switch because I was a big fan of Medcalf as Sam - and Tracy-Ann Oberman as Chrissie - through the Dirty Den days. But having seen Danniella's comeback scenes, she really is a true, gritty Mitchell. Oh, and she looks the spitting image of her screen mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor).

If you haven't had the chance to watch the trailer for Sam's return yet, then click your clicker here.

So are you looking forward to Sam/Danniella's return to Walford? Are you pleased that there'll be more Mitchell-time? Or would you rather see Kim Medcalf back in the role?

It's a fait accompli anyway, but it'll be interesting nonetheless to gauge public opinion!

Let me know your view using the voting panel below. Don't forget you can leave your comment at the end of this blog.

It's Sam Mitchell, I mean how can it be a bad thing!

How much air brushing has been used on that photo when you see how dog rough she looks in the promo However she now looks as bad as she acts Ms Medcalf played a mature classy Sam that viewers could like So all we have on offer is a 40 something has been, dressed and acting half her age the tasteless scene where she handed her panties to jay just sums up how far EE had lowered SM standards Why did they not have Kerry Katona play her

Should've brought Kim back! way classier, sexier and better looking!

I think she is looking very rough on her return to EastEnders

I much preferred Kim Medcalf!!

Wow Danniella's coming back - cool - she was better than Kim cant wait!!! Good luck Danniella! She was a good actress and had a great storyline.

I am pleased Danniella has decided to return to the show, I think she plays the role perfectly and as she created the original Sam Mitchell I feel the part is made for her!

She looks the spitting image of Pauline Fowler actually.

To be honest, I preferred Kim in the role of Sam. I'm getting fed up of the team bringing back old characters! Isn't it time to bring in some new people or work on some original storylines? Doesn't the saying of "out with the old, in with the new" apply anymore?

The thing about bringing back Daniella Westbrook back as Sam, is that Daniella is very much an 'Eastend' type of person. Something that Kim Medcalf wasn't. Although she played a very good Sam Mitchell, she brought something a bit different to the character! A little more class if you like, the business side of Sam. Now the audience have to believe that Sam has either become more 'Eastend all of a sudden, or that Daniella will carry on playing Sam on a more seious side, something that I dont think the actress will be able to pull off! So i guess its a case of wait and see, but all this chopping and changing of actresses may come across stupid and confusing.

Where's the option for no return full stop? Why does EE insist on bringing back old characters when the show runs out of steam? Watching the show now is like going back in time and watching it in the 1990s, very boring. (but at least the dreadful Dawn is gone)

Can't wait to see how Ronnie and Roxy take to her!
Sabrina, London, on August 29th, 2009
I think Sam's return is just mostly hype. As with Janine & Ricky's return, I don't see them in any major interesting storylines. They didn't live up to all the hype the producers are advertising so I am sure Sam will be another of these examples. I'm sure she will only be involved in a few minor storylines & after those storylines she will probably just be hovering in the background of the vic.

If they were going to brink Sam back to the show they should have brought Kim back to play her.
David, Stourbridge, on August 29th, 2009
I remember Danniella in her 1999-2000 stint, so I have mostly had Kim Medcalf, but Im terribly excited for Danniella's return as she is the original and it is her role. Having seen some of Danniella's scenes in the 1990's, she definitely seems more of a Mitchell than Kim Medcalf was. I love old characters returning, and this one is just as good as Ricky and Bianca's. More returns please Diederick Santer!!
Jack King, on August 29th, 2009
She doesn't look as pretty as I remember, so bring back Kim Medcalf
Chuchu, London, on August 29th, 2009
I would have preferred Kim Medcalf back in Eastenders rather than Danniella Westbrook, but It'll be great to see Danniella in all her glory again. Kim Medcalf was a great actress
Chris, Bristol, on August 29th, 2009
Sam was the original Mitchell sister not Roxy or Ronnie, and I can't wait to see her back again in the Square.
Nick, Bristol, on August 29th, 2009
She looks ten times better in that pic than she does in the promo. I'm looking forward to her return to see how far they 'retcon' Sam as if Kim Medcalf didn't exist, and whether or not they manage to give her decent storylines once the initial "Ooh Sam's back" shock has died down.
