Poll: Who should return for 'EastEnders' 25th?

Published Friday, Sep 18 2009, 19:33 BST | By Kris Green | 53 comments
Last week, I asked if you're excited about Emma Atkins's return to Emmerdale as Charity Tate.

Well, you voted in your thousands and your overwhelming response is 'Yeah, I can't wait!'. Nearly three-quarters (70.2%) of those polled are looking forward to her screen comeback on Thursday, October 1.

Meanwhile, 17.1% don't understand why the producers made the decision to write the character back into the show and the remaining 12.7% are yet to be convinced.

I'm a big fan of Emma's and was extremely pleased that series producer Gavin Blyth manages to lure her back with the promise of a big storyline.

Then when I saw the trailer promoing her return, I realised that this is potentially one of the best moves Emmerdale's made in a long time.

It's no secret that the show's been through a troublesome time over the past 12 to 18 months and Gavin's made a series of positive signings since he took office in January. In my eyes, though, managing to persuade Emma to sign on the dotted line was him dealing his first ace card.

I've yet to see her first episodes - I'm hoping the post person hurries the hell up! - so I could change my mind when I see the comeback on screen, but I highly doubt it.

Moving onto this week's poll now, in which I ask 'Who do you think should return for 'EastEnders' 25th anniversary?'

As you've probably all read, EastEnders is to broadcast its first ever live episode on Friday, February 19 2010 at 8pm to mark its 25th anniversary.

With that in mind, there's been a lot of speculation on the forums as to which faces from the show's rich back catalogue could return for its special week of silver anniversary episodes. So I thought, 'Let's have an official poll'. And here it is in all its glory...

All you have to do is select your THREE choices. If your ideal returnee isn't there, then simply choose the 'other' option and type away.

Don't forget, if you choose the 'other' option, to name your selection!

Hannah, Yorkshire, on September 23rd, 2009
Danielle Jones, imagine the ratings!
Sarah, London, on September 23rd, 2009
BRING BACK GUMBO HE'S LOVELY
Clare, Coventry, on September 22nd, 2009
I think if EE could pull off the return of Danielle Jones in a live episode next year they would get more ratings than when Den served Angie divorce papers!! I can just see it now. It's Ronnie & Joel's wedding, the reception is in the Vic and just as Ronnie throws her bouquet in the air Danielle bursts through the door and grabs it. Now that would really be something.

I thought Cindy was dead? [She 'died' off-screen in prison during child birth. She might not be dead as we never saw it.]

To be honest i'm fed up of Eastenders bringing back old characters. But i do think bring Clare back could open all sorts of doors as i think they could create lots of storylines for her. Chrissie - to finish her storyline and Danielle because Eastenders ruined the best storyline since the Stacey and Max affair.
Sophie Elliott, Gravesend, on September 22nd, 2009
Alfie Moon Coz he's amazing!
Kate, London, on September 22nd, 2009
I guess Simon and David Wicks would be cool to see back. But my number one choice would be to see Danielle back. Her ending was so unsatisfactory - it would be great to see her back so that we can get the Ronnie and Danielle reunion we deserve!!!
Dave, Glasgow, on September 22nd, 2009
Come EE - bring back Danielle
Guy Petersen, Plymouth, on September 22nd, 2009
The programme was at it's happiest when Kat and Alfie were in it and so they would be my choice of the living and of the supposed dead - Danielle of course! The former two would be easy to work back into the series I'd imagine. The matter of Danielle Jones would represent a tougher challenge but as we know and have discussed at length on Facebook, etc there are many ways this could be done in a realistic way. It would be the producers chance to rectify their big mistake in killing her off in the first place. As many must've noted in the candidates' column, Cindy is listed (who is dead to our knowledge) so why should Danielle be excluded from it?!
Guy Petersen, Plymouth, on September 22nd, 2009
My three choices - Danielle Jones, Alfie Moon and Kat Slater. The latter two represented the happiest era of the programme and it would be nice to have the happy couple back in the Square! They'd be easy to work back into the programme. While there's been more said on the Danielle Jones matter than anything else in EastEnders history to my knowledge, this will be the only opportunity for the producers to rectify their big mistake of killing her off in the first place if they can maybe get to work on writing a conspiracy plot (say involving Janine and Archie) that ensured Danielle wasn't actually killed in the road accident but went into hiding up in Telford after the funeral at her adoptive Dads after we were witness to her lying on a slab. The possibilities are endless - that's just one of them, even if a rather weak one!

I'd love to see the Masoods and Mitchells reunited with the last absent clan member. We've never seen those two families complete on screen and it would be great to see. Also, to fan the drama flames, they could bring back either Chrissie Watts or Lisa Fowler.
Alexis, Isle of Wight, on September 22nd, 2009
Little Mo was a lovable character that had been through so much and overcame it all. Pleeeeeeez bring her back- we all love her!!!!!
Dee, on September 21st, 2009
It would be great if they could bring back Danielle!! Cindy Beale's on the list and she supposedly died so Danielle should be on the list too!
Karen Edinger, Denmark, on September 21st, 2009
I'd like to see Simon Wicks, Sharon Rickman and Beppe Di Marco return to EastEnders for it's 25th anniversary
Han, Liverpool, on September 21st, 2009
it would be fab to see Kat and Alfie, my favourite Easties couple ever!
Dennis, United States, on September 21st, 2009
Danielle should have never been killed off.
Alison, Groves, on September 21st, 2009
I would like to see grant back. the family keep saying his name now and again. Ross said he would come back one day. Aflie and Kat should come too. It would be good to see them as well. They're a great couple. Stacey would like to have her Auntie back I'm sure.
Julia, London, on September 21st, 2009
Kat and Alfie should return.
