The truth about Archie Mitchell
Published Friday, Jan 11 2008, 14:32 GMT | By Kris Green | 5 comments
This week's Inside Soap suggests that Archie Mitchell will be making an appearance later on this year, with Rita Simons being quoted as saying that she'd love Ray Winstone, Michael Caine or Ian McShane to fill 'daddy's boots'.
The story also quotes Sam Janus's wish list of Terence Stamp and Malcolm McDowell, as I reported in July.
However, I can confirm that there are no current plans for the character of Archie Mitchell to roll into E20. As much as I'd love to see him wander onto the Square, there are absolutely no plans whatsoever at the moment.
I'm sure the scriptwriters have a real urge to draft the character of Archie into Walford as he's been mentioned a fair amount in the scripts – with little known about why he doesn't get on with his daughters – but I'm glad the powers that be seem to be taking their time on this one.
Let's hope that if and when the all-important casting happens, it's an iconic one…

There's too many Mitchells in EastEnders but if Archie was to appear in the show then Sir Michael Caine would be the ideal actor to play him.

Shame. I was hoping we would see Sir Michael Cane fulfil his wish and appear.

Michael Caine's perfect for the role. He's a Cockney through and through and would be perfect for Archie.
