Clare Bates is back…
Published Sunday, Jan 20 2008, 07:12 GMT | By Kris Green | 15 comments
Here are the first pictures of EastEnders' Clare Bates being (literally) thrown back into the thick of things in Albert Square.
It's a normal day in Walford's market when a car quickly speeds down the road and throws out what, on first impressions, looks like a hooker.* It's Clare and she's furious to have been ditched.
Clare - complete with a bleeding knee and a broken heel - is soon on a hunt to locate Dot but when she can't find her, Clare sets her heart on tracking down Ian instead. Jane, however, isn't impressed in the slightest - especially when she returns home to find Clare wearing one of her dresses!

These scenes air on Friday, February 1 on BBC One at 8pm.
Finally, have you noticed that EastEnders is beginning to regularly use commercial tracks in its eps? The next one they use is Massive Attack's 'Teardrop' which features in the intro to Tuesday's episode in the aftermath of Jay's stabbing.
Looking forward to seeing Clare return to the Square? Think she'll be able to shake off her Clare Cunningham persona? Let me know your views using the 'Click to see and add comments' link below...
* No offence is intended to anyone who owns that exact dress or the pair of knee-high studded boots. It's just an unfortunate coincidence.

I have no idea why she's coming back to EastEnders; she was crap in Hollyoaks. Hope her stay in Walford is a short one!

Not sure if I want this to happen or not. I always liked Clare when she was in it back in the day of Nigel and Debbie, but she was innocent and genuinely a nice kid. I'm not so sure now she will be anything like the Clare who left the show before. Oh and to answer a question asked by someone here, yes Gemma Bissix played Clare as a child aswell.

Not another car accident. First Tiffany got kiiled, then Shirley, Kevin got killed and now this Bimbo. I think they should pedestrianise Albert Square or build a bypass so we could all miss it...

Ray I cannot agree. We have lots of characters in the 30s age range. We did some people in their 20s as it's lacking.

NO!!! EastEnders is getting more like Hollyoaks. We need new older characters, not more tarty dressed type in the soap. It's definitely going down hill.

I cannot wait to see her back and hope she stays for a long time. EastEnders is by far the best soap these days.

Personally I don't know why the producers of EastEnders are planning to bring Clare back into the show. I shouldn't be surprised if she is just as bitchy or even bitchier than her Hollyoaks namesake. I hope that her time in the Square will be short and sweet.

In the first picture she looks very masculine from the back!!! Is it really only Dot that she'll know form before? Ian was there but did they have that much interaction as Nigel was a friend of Phil & Grant's?

I am really excited about the return of Clare Bates to Walford and I am intrigued to see what she will get up to, but I reckon I am going to be suspicious of her, thinking she's still Clare from Hollyoaks! I can see her turning really evil, but I hope she doesn't hurt poor Dot. Ian, by all means...

She definitely sounds interesting but I'm not sure how easily she'll be able to shake off her Clare Cunningham persona. It took a while to see Scott Maslen as Jack rather than Phil Hunter because the writers hadn't done much to make the characters seem different. Clare Bates' entrance does seem to be a bit of a Clare Cunningham-ish situation.

Is she still played by the actor who played her before or is it a new actor?

It never fails to amaze me the jealousy of some female viewers, as soon as some stunning girl shows some skin, the jealous lot come out in droves and say she can't act to save her life... well she obviously can or she wouldn't have been offered the role again... face it girls it boils down to jealousy!
