Ruth Gemmell is to make a two-episode guest appearance in The Bill, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.
The actress - who can currently be seen in BBC soap EastEnders playing the role of Whitney Dean's (Shona McGarty) wayward mum Debra - takes on the part of Rebecca Sands, a mother whose son is discovered abandoned, while her live-in nanny Clara Novak (Noeleen Comiskey) is found beaten and barely conscious.
As DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) and DS Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) investigate, a mentally unstable homeless man called Jared Miles (Brett Goldstein) soon becomes their main suspect.
Gemmell's episodes, titled 'Psychiatric Help' and 'Reaching Out', are due to air on Thursday, August 13 and Thursday, August 20 at 9pm on ITV1.
The Bill airs Thursdays at 9pm on ITV1.
