Former Boomtown star Neal McDonough is joining Desperate Housewives as a regular cast member.

The actor, who was known for his role as David McNorris on the show, will play a possible new love interest for Edie Britt (Nicolette Sheridan).

McDonough has also previously appeared in The X-Files, Medical Investigation, Traveller and Tin Man.

The casting follows the news that Gale Harold, who starred in Queer as Folk and Vanished, will be joining the show for a new romance plot involving Susan Meyer (Teri Hatcher).

Desperate Housewives' fifth season launches on ABC in the autumn.
