Barton felt creatively stifled in 'The OC'
Mischa Barton has revealed that she frequently felt frustrated while starring in The OC.

The actress said she now prefers to work exclusively in movies because she had no say in her career on the small screen.

She said: "You don't have any creative control and you're at the mercy of what everybody else wants. You work terribly long hours and a difficult schedule. Sometimes, we would shoot two episodes at once. The only other show to do that was [Beverly Hills] 90210."

Barton starred as rebellious teen Marissa Cooper in The OC for three years up to 2006. Her character was killed in a car crash at the end of series three, but the show's ratings plummeted and it was axed during its fourth season.

However, the 21-year-old admitted that she would still consider a return to TV in the future, saying: "It's not that I dislike doing television at all. It would be interesting having more creative control over where the storylines go or the characters. But for the right thing, of course."

She recently revealed that she does not miss playing Marissa, as she felt she had nothing in common with the character.
