Ryan, Seth and Summer launch a campaign to get Marissa back into Harbor for graduation. Although Dr. Kim agrees, the gang must apply to the notably stubborn board of trustees and enlist Sandy to argue their case. Unfortunately, a "hard-ass" judge, Jim Mercer, is chair of the board, making their uphill battle even steeper...
Johnny is upbeat when he learns he may be reinstated to the surf team and invites Marissa to a party to celebrate. She is later forced to decline the invite, however, when the party clashes with her board meeting. Johnny faces further rejection when doctors rule out a return to surfing, sending him into an angry depression.
Kirsten and Julie begin work on their new dating business. Julie, meanwhile, has her own eye on Summer's father, Dr. Roberts.
The gang gather for the senior class photo, but will Marissa be joining them?
