Waterloo Road star Tina O'Brien has confirmed that the "seedy" past of her character Bex Fisher will be fully explored when the show makes its return.

Bex - daughter of school headmistress Karen (Amanda Burton) - has so far only appeared briefly on screen but will soon be seen enrolling at Waterloo Road as a pupil.

Speaking to We Love Telly about her alter ego's storyline, O'Brien explained: "[She'd] disappeared and everyone was really worried about her. We now know she ran away and got involved in some really dark stuff."

Asked what Bex has been up to, the actress replied: "I can't say exactly what, but she's been with a boyfriend. It's criminal on his part and more seedy on hers."

Waterloo Road returns on Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
