'Waterloo Road' casts Paul Nicholls, John Thomson

Former EastEnders star Paul Nicholls has been cast in the next series of Waterloo Road.

The actor will play PE teacher Jez Diamond on the BBC One drama, while ex-Holby City star Jaye Jacobs will portray Jez's wife Sian, an ambitious Cambridge graduate who joins the school's science department.

Cold Feet star John Thomson will be joining the pair, due to appear as a parent in regular guest appearances throughout the series.

Meanwhile, Scottish actor Alec Newman has also been cast in the programme, taking on the role of new headmaster Michael Byrne.

Making his mark on the school, Michael manages to persuade ex-Waterloo Road teacher Matt Wilding, played by Chris Geere, to return to the music and drama departments.

Waterloo Road regulars who are confirmed to return for the next series include Philip Martin Brown as Grantly Budgen, Jason Done as Tom Clarkson, Mark Benton as Daniel Chalk and Chelsee Healey as Janeece Bryant.

The show airs Wednesdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and regularly pulls in over 5m viewers.
