Neil Morrissey will star in the new series of BBC drama Waterloo Road.
The actor takes on the part of deputy headteacher Eddie Lawson in the new series. His character is popular but clashes with headteacher Jack, played by Jason Merrells.
A source said: "Eddie is an excellent teacher but he doesn't take risks, which is bound to wind Jack up.
"There will also be conflict in the romance stakes when divorced and single Eddie finds chemistry with a colleague which sends sparks flying."
Morrissey has struggled to find success since Men Behaving Badly. Brian Park, executive producer, commented: "It's fantastic to have Neil back."
