Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd has revealed that he is "chuffed" after learning that he is going to be a father.

The actor, who plays bad boy David Platt on the ITV1 soap, confirmed reports that his girlfriend Lauren Shippey is pregnant with their first child.

"I am obviously chuffed to bits. Obviously it wasn't planned but I am very excited," Jack told the Daily Star. "We don't know what we are having yet but I kind of want to keep that as a surprise."

Shepherd's co-stars Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw), Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) and Julia Haworth (Claire Peacock) are also expecting their first children this year.
