Poppy Jhakra has joined the cast of Coronation Street, DS can confirm.
The 23-year-old from West Yorkshire, who has previously appeared in Holby City and Doctors, will play Minnie, a kebab shop worker and friend of Amber, the daughter of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).
Jhakra has been added to the soap's cast in a bid to better reflect Manchester's ethnic diversity.
A Weatherfield source told DS: "We've been extremely pleased with Nikki Patel's performance as Amber, so we thought it was about time to explore her friends on the Street.
"Minnie will play a part in the development of Amber's relationship with Daryl Morton and Dev's relationship with Tara."
Jhakra began filming scenes last month and will make her Corrie debut in a few weeks' time.
