Corrie's Gascoyne: 'Peter's like a child'
Published Tuesday, Dec 16 2008, 10:00 GMT | By Kris Green

The 40-year-old's character Peter Barlow returned to the Street at the end of October and brought with him his five-year-old son, Simon (Alex Bain).
Peter gained custody of Simon following his mother Lucy's death, despite having not seen him since he was born.
Speaking exclusively to DS, Gascoyne suggested that Peter's rocky relationship with his father Ken (William Roache) over the years has had a big impact on the way he is. "[Ken]'s the root of everything he does," he said. "There's a little bit of Peter that's stuck in a child's mindset. He's never really cleared that up."
The actor went on to explain how his character loves his son, but doesn't know how to show it. "As the story carries on, you'll see that Peter has the potential to be a fantastic dad to Simon," he continued.
"At the moment, he naturally loves him, but Peter doesn't feel he's good enough to look after him. Peter just thinks that Simon should be with a family who is equipped to look after him. It's not that Peter wants to get shot of him."
