The 39-year-old comedian makes his debut as children's entertainer and electrician Jesse Chadwick on Monday after landing the part in September.
Speaking to DS, he said: "We're still in negotiations, but… [h]opefully, subject to other work, I'll be coming back again for a longer stint."
Jesse, a role which was especially written for Thomson, arrives in Weatherfield for Steve McDonald's (Simon Gregson) daughter Amy's (Amber Chadwick) birthday party. However, Thomson's alter-ego has recently lost his wife - the other half of his double act - to the local council's drain man.
There is an immediate spark between Jesse and Eileen (Sue Cleaver) when she stands in an his emergency entertainment partner and before he leaves the Rovers, he hands her a feather as a parting gift.
Thomson explained: "It's like a symbol for 'I'll be back'."
